Things are Stillwell with this Trade!

Last week, I sent out a Beckett trade to John Lamica.  I posted what he got here.  Here’s what I got on Friday, five days ago.

Kurt Stillwell

In 1987, the Reds were platooning two shortstops.  One was a 1984 Team USA member and first round draft pick.  The other, was a guy named Kurt Stillwell.  I was a huge fan of the latter but the Reds obviously saw the future Hall of Famer’s potential.  Prior to the 1988 season, the Reds dealt Stillwell to Kansas City for Danny Jackson who won 23 games.  I’d say that worked out well for them.

As for me, I got five more cards for my Stillwell collection.  Top row are Topps Gold parallels from 1993 (#84) and 1994 (#198).  Bottom row are 1992 Leaf (#142), 1990 Leaf (#256), and 1992 Bowman (#135).

So Random

I was more of a Mackenzie Falls fan, myself.  I digress.

Top row: 2007 Bowman’s Best Jorge Posada (#32), 1993 Fleer Jim Abbott (#187), and 1999 Ultra Vinny Castilla (#50).

1987 Topps Mini Leaders

Since I gave a shout out to Danny Jackson and his 1988 season … he would have won the Cy Young Award had it not been for a 59 1/2 Scoreless Inning streak.  And, that same team beat my beloved A’s in the World Series.  I could not stand Mr. Hershiser.

So, when I asked for a baseball glove for Christmas, my family thought I’d appreciate the irony of a Orel Hershiser faux-auto one.  Sigh.

I softened on him when he dominated for Cleveland (and left Cincy).  And, I do like these mini-version of the 1987 Topps set.  Here’s #14.

Best for Last?

Dad loves him, so every chance I get to pick him up in a Reds uniform, I do.  Here’s a 2011 Topps Heritage Jonny Gomes (#148).

Several sets I like, five Stillwell cards, not a bad trade.
