First Trade of 2024! O, Canada….

I approved this trade back in December but needed some time to pull them.  Turns out the trader (jrbaron13) needed time as well.  And, upon purchasing the label, I discovered this trade is my first set of cards crossing the border.  So, let’s dive in and see what he’s getting!

Topps Archives

Lets start with the bigger items: some cards from Topps Archives.  The Torres insert is the only card from 2020.  The McGwire, Javier, and Clemente are base cards from 2021, the year they decided to use like seven sets.  Not sure who thought the Bazooka sets was a good idea but Topps gonna Topps, I suppose.  I do like the McCutchen Uncle Larry poster card insert.

Side note: I dislike variation cards but the one place I would actually appreciate them is in Archives.  Please don’t short print them, but do a McGwire card as an Athletic and one as a Cardinal.

Donruss

Next up, some 2019 and 2020 Donruss.  I had the privilidge of seeing The Punisher (aka Aristedes Aquino) and if I remember correctly, he crushed a homer.  The real-life version of Pedro Cerrano.  He got two variation cards, a Kris Bryant alternate version and Pete Alonso, or Polar Bear as shown.

Variations

Speaking of variation cards, this trade included a few alternate versions.  Like, the Joe Niekro where the copyright symbol is in a different location.  Or the checklist has the wrong card numbers.  Or minor league stats omitted.

2023 Cards

Both a Bowman paper and chrome version Edouard Julien.  And, a few flagship Topps cards.  Juan Soto and Bryce Harper headline this group.

And some older cards

A couple of Topps inserts from 2002 (Billy Martin) and 2007 (Mickey Mantle).  I’m surprised I haven’t put the 1988 Fleer All-Stars in pages.  Very interesting set:  had stars like Boggs, Clemens, Dawson, Trammell, and Molitor; Jack Clark and George Bell representing the “Hall of Good 80s” players; youngsters that didn’t quite make it that next level: Samuel, Matt Nokes, Teddy Higuera, and Tom Henke; and Reds legend Eric Davis.

Speaking of Reds legends, he’s getting Pete Rose.  Mark McGwire makes another return, this time from the mini League Leaders set.  Sarah thought it was cute.

Finally, I some where I got a 1978 Topps Gene Upshaw football card and he wanted it.

All said, 50 cards left Peoria about two hours ago with a Beckett book value of $55.40.  Pretty decent for a first time trade.  Hopefully, the return side of the trade will come soon!
